# Encrypt an input

Encrypt on the device, then pass the ciphertext into the contract.

```ts
const input = arcan.createEncryptedInput(contractAddress, userAddress);
input.add64(amount);
const { handles, inputProof } = await input.encrypt();
```

* `contractAddress` is the contract that will call `FHE.fromExternal`.
* `userAddress` is the account that will send the transaction.
* `add64` matches an `externalEuint64` argument.
* `handles[0]` is the external ciphertext.
* `inputProof` is the bytes argument beside it.

Use `addBool`, `addAddress`, or another `add*` when the Solidity argument is the matching external type. The order of `add` calls is the order of `handles`.

## Passing it to Solidity

```ts
await token.confidentialTransfer(to, handles[0], inputProof);
```

The wallet signs that transaction. The amount is not an ABI integer. A block explorer shows the call and a ciphertext blob.

## One input, one contract

An input proof is bound to the contract and the user. Reusing it against a second contract fails `fromExternal`. Create a new input for each contract.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.arcan.finance/sdk/encrypt.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `build a script that syncs our docs to a CMS` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
